The Genesis of EastBayRag

Welcome to the EastBayRag website. What started as a small project to create a website that I could control that would enable me to share photos with the family and allow them to easily view and download files (without having to order prints), has turned into a rather large hobby that has seen many a late night and a few hours poured into it.

Initially I thought it would be a good idea to include some sort of blog section within the site. That then grew into the thought that I could host blogs for other people so I drafted my buddy "Mr O" from the UK to add content to the blog sites. Next came the idea of allowing other people to interact so the fun stuff section was born with things like a graffiti wall, quiz, caption competition and much more including breaking new ground to figure out how to use javascript to get stuff to move about the screen and do things.

The rest has just been a natural progression as the site has blossomed to add similar things like video to compliment the photos and forums to complement the blogs and fun stuff. Intermingled with this has been a huge learning of many system languages and products, working through bugs to get things like the upload progress to work with PHP and to interface the website with the Adobe Photoshop catalog. Hard work, but lots and lots of fun.

All of this has now culminated with the development of the EastBayRag (EBR) Business Plan:
