This is the first time I've ever been out trying to find a specific bird. Sometime mid week I joined an East Bay Birding (EBB) mailing list provided by the Mount Diablo Audubon Society (which I've subsequently joined). Anyway, I learned that there was a tufted duck at Lake Merritt so decided to head there to see if we could find it. He was still there and didn't take much finding. I'm really not the expert, but I think tufted ducks are rare visitors to the US so I'm very pleased on three accounts - the first, getting to see such a bird, the second, being able to find what I was looking for and the third, finding reliable information about birds.
