This afternoon saw a trip to Frank's dump at Hayward Shoreline. There has been promise of many shorebirds at this location, however, before we get there, we need to ask the existential questions - who is Frank? Of all the things Frank may have achieved in his lifetime, why would I want to see his dump? Is Frank proud of his dump? And so on ... you get the picture. To cut the discussion off, I came to the conclusion that Frank is actually a dog (and a big one at that) given the amount of dog poo along the track. Nevertheless I persisted on to the location. Actually, joking aside, I couldn't find the place listed on any map, so I don't actually know why it's called Frank's dump - it may be because of something that used to be there. I just read about it and the fact that you should go there at high tide.
Very pleased with what I saw, but not so happy with how the photos came out. Must remember tripod! Actually, I went alone on this trip to enjoy a little peace and quiet, but I'd have really benefited from having my tripod and my zoom extension. Still, great day out and I have the sunburn to prove it. You're kind of going to have to take my word about what birds are in the photos, but I was given some help by a more professional birder who told me some of the birds that were there. So here we go:
