After the success of yesterday, we decided to push our luck a little further on the heron front and go after a green heron. There have been notes about green heron at Heather Farm and, considering how near it is, we decided to go there. Amazingly, we saw the heron almost straight away. It was well hidden on the lower branch of a tree extending over the lake. I managed to get a few reasonable shots even though it was mostly obscured by branches. I managed to get fairly close to it as it was distracted by a pair of river otters playing underneath it. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the otters, when I moved to see them, they'd gone into the reeds. Karen thought she saw one at the end of the day, but I'm pretty sure it's a rat (pictured below if you want to take a look). We were also treated to a number of belted kingfishers mainly on the island. Didn't get any great shots of the kingfishers, but enough that you can tell what it is at least. Birds below are:
