We only had one day out in Arenal and we used that to head off to Caño Negro National Park. The photos on this page are taken on the drive to and from the park. On the way to the park our vehicle started leaking oil, so we had to wait for a replacement. I'm rather happy that it did as it gave us the chance to walk round a little neighborhood and see some birds that we didn't actually see anywhere else. Also, ironically, there's a couple of favorites on this page. The first is the Hoffman's woodpecker that I'm quite pleased I captured as it popped its head up from behind the post it was climbing. The second is the chestnut-bellied heron that our guide was very pleased with - apparently he mentioned to Karen that he'd only seen four of these before. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it from the front. Unfortunately, because I'm not 100% convinced it's a chestnut-bellied as opposed to a tricolored, however, our guide was a much better birder than I'll ever be, so I will defer to his better judgment.
