Went back to Castle Rock almost a year to the day from when I went there before. The timing wasn't intentional, but it makes it interesting. The highlight last time was a pair of Nuttal's woodpeckers going in and out of their nest in a tree feeding their young. One of the wonderful things about nature is how things get reused. 12 months on and the woodpecker nest is now a western bluebird nest. (Woodpeckers don't reuse their own nest). There are still plenty of Nuttal's woodpeckers around, I saw enough of them, but unfortunately, didn't get any pictures of them. I did, however, manager the following:
